Gerald T. Roden, Esq.
Jerry Roden is an attorney, entrepreneur and an individual with a strong interest in DUI & Criminal Defense law. While a skilled litigator, negotiator & businessman, he also possesses an affinity for and experience in addiction issues and mental health matters. In addition, he is versed in diversion courts; alternative sentencing; driver’s license & pre-trial intervention issues. He is equally talented in research and motion skills as evidenced in his being published in the Florida Supplements.
As an individual in the private sector that has continued to succeed in a down economy, and one who strongly believes in the need for efficiency in government; business and non-profits, Roden stands ready to share his professional knowledge and experience. He is a self-starter, with new ideas, that thinks outside the box. His daily contact with prosecutors; law enforcement; alcohol & drug abuse counselors and judiciary, as well as problem solving abilities, and negotiation skills, have earned him the respect of those in and out of government.
Roden, now in a private multi-county criminal law practice, is a former assistant attorney general and public defender for the State of Florida. Accordingly he has years of experience working with the Office of the State Attorney; Department of Corrections, Department of Juvenile Justice and Department of Children and Families. Equally adapt in community service and advocacy roles, he has appeared before state legislators, congressional leaders, governors, agency officials and local stakeholders. Prior to entering private law practice, Roden joined the staff of former Congressman Dave Weldon (Melbourne-FL) where he provided counsel on health, business, local government and issues specific to the Treasure & Space Coast. Most recently he was appointed by Governor Rick Scott as a Commissioner for Volunteer Florida wherein he promoted education and philanthropy during his term as well as distributed millions of federal dollars to a variety of groups in the state. In addition, Jerry also has served as a gubernatorial appointee on the Board of Trustees for Indian River State College where he contributed, as part of a total team effort, in securing high dollar grants from the National Science Foundation & the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In addition, he played a role in the college transitioning from a community college to a four year degree granting institution. Finally, he advocated for the maximum amount of education dollars, while chairman of the Early Learning Coalition, which provides free Pre-k education for families in Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee Counties.
Jerry completed his undergraduate studies at Florida State University where he received a Political Science degree Cum Laude. He then attended the University of Miami earning a degree in law. Mr. Roden is a member of the Florida & District of Columbia Bar; Federal Courts for the Southern & Northern District of Florida and the District Court for the District of Columbia. Additionally, he has served as a committee member on the Traffic Rules Committee for the Florida Bar.
He makes his home in Vero Beach, Florida, with his wife Cynthia, the general manager for the Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and son, Brice, now a freshman in college at FSU. Jerry was involved in scouting as a youth where he was bestowed the rank of Eagle Scout. Additionally, he graduated from well known area high school – John Carroll – having been raised on the Treasure Coast since 1972.
